Ambassador Frymëzim Isufaj is a career diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo. He was appointed as Consul General at the Consulate General of the Republic of Kosovo in NY in late 2020.
Previously, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Washington, D.C. While serving as DCM, Mr. Isufaj managed the Embassy’s political and economic affairs and contributed in strengthening existing relationships with the US Department of State, NSC and Congress, where Kosovo enjoys strong support from a steadfast ally. The highlight during his tenure was the transformation process of Kosovo Security Forces to Armed Forces - establishment of Kosovo’s Army, where Mr. Isufaj contributed actively on securing US support for this process.
In addition, Mr. Isufaj advocated for U.S. investment in Europe’s youngest democracy, including the Millennium Challenge Corporation, which awarded $49 million to projects supporting the government of Kosovo in its efforts to lower energy costs and improve transparency and accountability.
Prior to joining the Embassy in Washington, Mr. Isufaj served as a Political and Economic Counselor at the Embassy of Kosovo in Brussels starting in 2013. There he cooperated and coordinated with EU institutions to bring Kosovo closer to the EU. His contribution focused on taking part in negotiations for signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU.
Mr. Isufaj held senior positions within the Government of Kosovo as Senior Advisor to several Ministries from 2008 to 2013, including the Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of European Integration, and Ministry of Agriculture. Mr. Isufaj has experience working for the private sector in Kosovo as well, where he served as Director of the Department for Policy and Economic Analysis at Kosovo Chamber of Commerce. Throughout his career, he has been a forceful advocate for Kosovo membership into international organizations and agencies, as well as Kosovo’s recognition across the world.
Mr. Isufaj received his bachelor’s degree in Management and Informatics at the University of Prishtina and continued his education in the Business Administration Master’s program at the University of Ljubljana.
